RAWR [Oct. 17th, 2008|10:30 am]
For those of you who've asked... another of the many small things that happen at my office that makes me hate my job.

As of next week we will be short two people, which is pretty bad considering there will only be 3 left. So we put out an ad for someone and had a voicemail today from someone interested. The owner and one of the guys had meetings scheduled for later this morning. So he comes in...sees where the applicant called, and does nothing about it. He's here for about 45 minutes doing random stuff and then leaves for a meeting. About this time a couple of problems come up, and I'm trying to do dmg control. I have to call him to confirm something about an order and the conversation goes something like this...

Me: Hey...I need to ask you something real quick...
Him: I need you to call someone for me.
Okay...who?
You need to call the guy we're meeting and tell him we'll be late.
(Oh...I'm sorry. I didn't realize the phone you're talking to me on was broken so you couldn't make outgoing calls. I must not have written that guy's name and number clearly enough on the paper I gave you this morning. Riding shotgun must be hard.)

Ok, I can call him. Do you have his name and number right there in front of you...where you can read it to me?
*gives me info*
Okay. Two things...first, *explains first thing*
Yeah, ok. Have you called that guy about the job yet?
No, I've been on the phone trying to straighten things out here...
Well, that needs to be your priority right now.
(Alright. Since I have no say whatsoever in hiring and I know you don't care about my opinion, it would be perfect for me to call the guy you didn't want to talk with this morning and ask him if he's qualified for a job that you don't give me any relevant information for.)

Okay.
You need to call him right now.
I'm going to call the guy you're late for a meeting with first.
You know what I meant.

And that was that.

I went thru job ads today but didn't see anything that jumped out at me. I really want to start something of my own and messing around with chainmail/jewelry artsy type stuff sounds super fun...and is def something that would be fine to do part time until I could get a customer base/website up and running well... I'm just a lil concerned about the product market. It's geekery, which is great, but is/will there be enough demand to turn it into a full time thing at some point in the future. Who knows... I have a couple of ideas in mind, but will just have to wait and see how some other stuff goes.

More work strangeness [Sep. 18th, 2008|02:15 pm]
A coworker was on the phone 3 ft from me having a nice long chat about his current female interest. For several minutes he explained to the person on the other end that they're not really serious...bt she could cook, and that made her worth keeping around. That statement was followed by...

"She's not doing my laundry yet, but if she could make my clothes smell like my mom I'd marry her."

I'm not 100% sure in which sense he meant that, but either way...it's disturbing.

Losing my mind... [Sep. 2nd, 2008|11:56 pm]
[mood | contemplative]
[music |Incubus - I wish you were here]

When I left work today, I decided I was going to devote my evening at home to being useful/productive and not just sit on my duff playing WoW. I got a lot of things done, and to top off the evening I was going to work on making some CD mixes that have been put off for too long. Of course, given my luck, not only could I not find 3-4 particular songs I need that are on a cd that's being borrowed (and too obscure to download), I also can't find the backup copies from the old PC that have those songs on it. I'll just have to be patient... If you run across a plastic box with a cd saying "Backup 2001" please let me know.

*sighs* [Aug. 26th, 2008|09:24 am]
I'm having a chat with my boss (as we do entirely too often when business is slow), and we end up on the subject of credit scores and how some of my fellow employee's scores hover between 25-50. He proceeded to tell me the downfalls of bad credit, going into discussion of how he used to date one particular girl. She was nice and they got along really well, but her credit was bad so I dumped her.

*blinks...a lot*

"Here is my dating application. Fill it out in triplicate, and don't forget your promised height and weight for the next ten years, your net worth, credit score, and all property you currently have title to. A sense of humor would be nice too."

...good grief.

Advice, please... [Jul. 24th, 2008|09:42 am]
I'm finally over the moping about imperfect costumes phase of picking one for Gencon, and have definitely decided on one. Dirty Meg, Warjack mechanic. The clothes I have already, the free styrofoam I snagged from work covered in duct tape will make excellent tools... an apron, and we're off!
http://www.privateerpress.com/WARMACHINE/gallery/default.php?level=picture&id=375

The problem I'm having is that there's another costume that I found last year that I'd also like to wear...along with the beautiful matching hair. Perfect fit with the western games that I love so very very much...

http://www.buycostumes.com/Saloon-Madame-Adult-Wig-Auburn/33945/ProductDetail.aspx

Too much for Con? I think it would be a LOT of fun. There are some women wearing a lot crazier things... ...but I'm probably going to be running around solo most of the time that day, and while I can handle SOME attention I don't want to be just flat out harassed all day.

So... what do ya'll think?

As I wonder about my sanity... [Jun. 11th, 2008|02:57 pm]
I try not to get upset about things easily, but there are a few things that I believe will bother me until the end of my days. The most annoying thing in the world to me is people who continue to talk long after the conversation has gone into the ground. I believe you should say whatever you need or like in a brief and concise manner and shut your yapper. In like vein, the second most annoying thing in the world to me is listening to someone repeat something that I have nothing to do with.

My boss had something stolen off his boat trailer over the weekend while he was out on the water. Missing item made it terribly difficult to get the boat out, but he managed to make it ok. He shared this information with me about 5 seconds after he got in the door that morning, which was fine, until immediately after when he called another employee to share the details. This continued on throughout the day:

Myself
Employee 1
His best friend
His mother
His father
A customer
His banker
Employee 2
A vendor rep
The guy who was WITH HIM WHEN IT HAPPENED
Employees 3&4
His realtor
Another customer

It's getting about that time again...time to prereg for GenCon so we can get into events before they're all full. Yay! And again this year, I'm left with the same question all women supposedly have...what in the WORLD am I going to wear???

Everyday clothes I have no problem with, but this is the one time a year I can dress up like anything and people think it's cool instead of just staring. So...I need help folks! Anyone have ideas for a GenCon costume???

Last year I did a goth fairy...and while the outfit got the point across, I wasn't super incredibly fond of it. The heels were great, but OH did my feet hurt... Anyway... If anyone has creative thoughts on the matter, I'd love to hear them! Here are the guildlines I've put up for myself for costumes.

1 - I'm not a small girl. I don't mind going around with my boobs half hanging out (free stuff, woo hoo!), but no spandex please. Skin tight clothes on love handles ain't sexy...

2 - I don't like anime. I've heard there are some neat possibilites in that area...but I just don't like the genre, so I don't want to do anything along that line.

3 - No more super pointy high heels without good inserts, or slaves and a sedan chair. I will take applications for slaves however, should anyone want to sign up.

That's about it.

The only real ideas I've come up with so far are a cowgirl a la deadlands... super fun, but expensive. Most of the halloween ready to go ones are either in hot pink, or have skirts short enough to see your hoo hah. And they don't let weapon replicas in...so no fun pistols. If nothing else I may default back to last yr's costume with different shoes...but... it'd be nice to try something new.

So...if anyone has any ideas, let me know!

Anyone else going to GenCon this yr?

For Supernatural fans... [Mar. 10th, 2008|01:35 pm]
Sam and Dean Winchester's father is not dead. He is in fact still alive, and sitting across the room from me in the Allendale Arby's.

I'm not sure if I should walk over and say "hi", or run scared...and why is there no salt on my table? Oh dear...

Brrr.. [Jan. 17th, 2008|11:28 am]
It sure is cold today...cold enough to snow all night, and just warm enough for it to look safe for me to get out in it and go to work. I probably should have called in and taken a free day off...oh well. Maybe if it doesn't warm up by tomorrow. ;)

I went to the Walakus Martakus on Tues and bought a workout kit. I was looking for a neat set of dumbells that could be set to different weights. They must have sold out over Christmas though, as there wasn't a set to be found. But...they did have a box with 3 "sticks" in it that were 3lbs each and fit together to be either 6 or 9 lbs. It seemed the closest to what I was looking for, was definitely less expensive that buying 3-4 different sets of weights and had a DVD workout video to go along with it. I took it home and did the video, which didn't seem too bad...until last night when I started getting REALLY sore. The only shape I'm in is round, and I'm gonna keep working on fixing that. I'm gonna try to pick the sticks up again tonight for another go...assuming my legs will still carry me up the stairs to my room. :)

Politics [Jan. 15th, 2008|10:07 am]
Two months ago my sister, who isn't a political person, called and started telling me about a guy named Ron Paul who was running in the primaries. She seemed to think he's the greatest candidate since elections started, and told me I needed to check out his platform. I'd never heard of him, and might have scanned the website, but never really looked at it seriously. A few weeks later I noticed a couple of Ron Paul signs on my way to work. Another week, more signs in different places in the Tri-Cities...to the point of a supporters rally passing out literature and holding signs at one of the busiest intersections in Kpt.

I called my sister to tell her about the rally and afterward, I seriously started trying to figure out who the likely Republican candidate in the area is and made it a point to watch for signs and advertising. Ron Paul's the no name here, so I figured it should be easy to find out who the front runner is. Two weeks has gone by...I've heard a lot of talk about this guy over that one, but have not seen a single sign or piece of literature passed out that wasn't for Ron Paul.

Very, very interesting.

I Am A: Lawful Neutral Human Cleric (4th Level)

Ability Scores:

Strength-11

Dexterity-11

Constitution-14

Intelligence-15

Wisdom-14

Charisma-11

Alignment:
Lawful Neutral A lawful neutral character acts as law, tradition, or a personal code directs him. Order and organization are paramount to him. He may believe in personal order and live by a code or standard, or he may believe in order for all and favor a strong, organized government. Lawful neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you are reliable and honorable without being a zealot. However, lawful neutral can be a dangerous alignment because it seeks to eliminate all freedom, choice, and diversity in society.

Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.

Class:
Clerics act as intermediaries between the earthly and the divine (or infernal) worlds. A good cleric helps those in need, while an evil cleric seeks to spread his patron's vision of evil across the world. All clerics can heal wounds and bring people back from the brink of death, and powerful clerics can even raise the dead. Likewise, all clerics have authority over undead creatures, and they can turn away or even destroy these creatures. Clerics are trained in the use of simple weapons, and can use all forms of armor and shields without penalty, since armor does not interfere with the casting of divine spells. In addition to his normal complement of spells, every cleric chooses to focus on two of his deity's domains. These domains grants the cleric special powers, and give him access to spells that he might otherwise never learn. A cleric's Wisdom score should be high, since this determines the maximum spell level that he can cast.

I spoke too soon. [Nov. 21st, 2007|10:27 am]
Chris has once again joined the ranks here at my workplace. Not long after being back he told a story that I just have to share. A customer called in asking for an estimate that wasn't far from where Chris and his driver were working that day, so I called and gave him the address. Before I could ask him if he needed directions he said "Oh, I know exactly where this place as at", as he told me how he knew...

"I grew up out there. We usedta get drunk and build big bonfires all the time. One night I was out there drunk and on acid, and started pullin up these little bitty pine trees out of the ground cuz I thought they were martians. Woke up the next morning and the whole trunk of my car was full of pine trees."

Welcome back, bud.

AIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIEIE!!!!!!!!! [Nov. 13th, 2007|10:59 am]
I made coffee at work this morning, forgetting that the guy who usually drinks most of said coffee wasn't going to be in today.

Over the last few wks I've tried not to drink as many fizzy drinks, and cutting Coke must have cut out more caffiene than I realized. In an effort to not waste half a pot of coffee I drank one cup and have since not been able to sit still. AIIIIIEEEEEIIIIEEEIIEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

The worst part is that I'm in the office alone today, so there isn't much to do besides answer the phone and run circles around my chair!

Stupid customers [Oct. 12th, 2007|03:22 pm]
A guy calls into work today...
"Yeah, do you have a technician there that I can talk to?

Another customer wanting free step by step instructions on how to install something. We get this every day, and since I was the only person in the building at the time, I said...
"All the techs are out on jobs at the moment, but I may be able to help you. What sort of trouble are you having?"

"Well...it's a problem with a motor. When will one of the guys be back?"

I'd forgotten that because I have a nice voice and boobs I can't know anything about "mechanical stuff". He pissed me off, so instead of putting the effort into helping him, I wrote down his name and number and told him someone should get back in touch with him. I've not yet decided if that message belongs hidden in a drawer until next week, or if it should go in the trash.

Oh what a tangled web... [Sep. 10th, 2007|10:34 am]
My boss bought World of Warcraft over the weekend.

I couldn't help but grin when he mentioned it. It seems that Diablo II was just way too easy for him, and they stopped putting out new content for it (yeah, a few YEARS ago...), so he thought he'd give this world of warcraft thing a try. He started telling me about it and then asked "Have you played this game before?" I couldn't help but laugh... "Yeah, that game's like crack." He starts telling me about his night elf hunter, whose name he doesn't remember, on a server he can't recall.

Some of his comments:
"It's very misleading in the beginning. The bears don't come after you when you get near them, but when you go out into the forest they attack you."
**That's so you can learn how to fight them. Now you know that walking up to a bear in the forest will cause it to want to tear you in half.

"I only died once, and I didn't think you could die that way. I was talking to the elf guy...you know, at the top of that tower, where you get that quest... (insert vague descriptions of a building in what we think is Auberdine). I was talking to him and then jumped off the ledge to get to the ground, and I died!"

It's very interesting to see a closet geek getting started in an MMORPG. I'll keep you updated on any other interesting happenings.

If you've got a high lvl WoW character, or know about Scryers/Aldor, you'll enjoy this video.
